Severe Weather Center is designed to provide Wisconsin weather information and alerts without requiring you to create an account.
- Notification and device identifiers: When you enable push notifications, the app uses a device/app notification identifier (such as an Android Firebase Cloud Messaging token) so alerts can be delivered to your device.
- County-level location preference: If you use alert settings, you may select a Wisconsin county. That selection is used to match weather alerts to the area you choose. The app does not require or use your precise GPS location for this feature.
- Alert preferences: The counties and alert/event types you choose are used to determine which notifications are relevant to your settings.
How We Use Information
- To deliver weather alerts and push notifications you have enabled.
- To match alerts with the county and event types you selected.
- To provide, maintain, troubleshoot, and improve Severe Weather Center.
- To protect the security and reliability of the service.
Information We Do Not Collect
We do not require an account and do not intentionally collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos, financial information, health information, precise GPS location, or browsing history through the Severe Weather Center app.
Sharing of Information
WI SEVERE WX™ does not sell your personal information and does not share your information with third parties for advertising or marketing. Notification delivery may use service providers such as Google Firebase Cloud Messaging to transmit push notifications to your device. These services process the information necessary to provide the requested notification functionality.
Security
Information transmitted between the app and our servers is protected using encrypted connections such as HTTPS/TLS. We take reasonable measures to protect notification identifiers and alert preferences from unauthorized access.
Data Retention and Deletion
Notification subscription information and alert preferences are retained only as needed to provide notification and alert functionality. You can disable notifications at any time in the app. Because Severe Weather Center does not provide user accounts, there is no account to delete. If you have a privacy-related deletion request concerning information associated with your device or notification subscription, contact us at the address below and we will review the request.
Children's Privacy
Severe Weather Center is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when the app or its data practices change. The effective date at the top of this page indicates when the current version took effect.
